What this checks

  • Tagging, whether the PDF has a structure tree a screen reader can follow at all. This is the single biggest gap a PDF can have.
  • Document language, so a screen reader picks the right pronunciation.
  • Document title, so a screen reader announces something meaningful instead of the filename.
  • Image alt text, counting tagged images with and without alternative text (only checkable if the PDF is tagged).
  • Form field descriptions, whether fillable fields have a tooltip a screen reader can read out.

What this doesn't check

This isn't a PDF/UA or WCAG compliance certifier. It doesn't check colour contrast, reading order, table headers, or run the AI-assisted checks a tool like PAC does. It's a quick, honest first pass, not a substitute for a proper audit before a legal or procurement submission.
