How it works
- Add a scanned PDF. Pages that already have selectable text are skipped.
- Pick a scan quality, then click "Make searchable".
- Download a copy that looks exactly like your scan, with the recognised text sitting invisibly underneath so you can search, select and copy it.
Your scan itself isn't changed or re-saved as a lower-quality image. The OCR engine and its language model are files hosted on this site and run in your browser, so nothing is uploaded and nothing is fetched from anywhere else. It works best on English and other Latin-script text. Accented letters outside the Western European set are saved without their accents, and handwriting isn't supported. OCR can make mistakes, so check anything important.
